TEACHOUT

The TEACHOUT study's research results on outdoor education in one place

The purpose of the TEACHOUT website is to support teachers, students and other interested parties who, either in Danish or English, want to gain insight into the results of the TEACHOUT study in short form as well as the opportunity to find more in-depth links to PhD projects, book chapters and international publications.

National survey on children’s use of nature

The national survey is a national representative study asking Danish parents about their children’s use of greenspace.

The study’s first data collection was carried out by Statistics Denmark, a Danish governmental organization responsible for producing statistics on the Danish society.

A random sample of 10.000 children between the ages of 1 and 15 years old was invited to participate in the study. between September 2018 and June 2019. Parents of the 1-15-year-old children were recruited through E-boks, which is a safe portal for digital mail e.g. from the authorities to the citizens in Denmark.

Invitation letters were distributed at four time points (2.500 invitations per time point between September 2018 and June 2019) to account for seasonal variation in children’s use of green space. The study will be repeated in 2022/23 again.

Scout with the girls

The project Scout with the girls is a new collaboration between girl scouts (De grønne pigespejdere) and after school cares (SFO’er)

The project aims at inspiring girls (6-10 years old) to active playing outside and visiting nature during time spent in after school care. A collaboration between local girl scout leaders and educational staff/pedagogues develops and implements activities in Kalundborg, Ribe and Haderslev.

The project is evalutated by researchers from University of Southern Denmark and the project is associated with Children & Nature - Denmark.

Nature families

Nature families seeks to make nature more easy and accessible for families with children to experience nature through a large national community. There is a Nature family group in every municipality across Denmark!

In collaboration with Nordea-fonden and Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen the Danish society for Nature Conservation wants to make nature, and experience nature with all its benefits, more accessible for families with children. It needs to be attractive, easy and social. By using locally established Facebook-groups as well as a central webpage, we aim to create local networks where families invite each other and arrange social activities in the woods, park or anywhere in their local nature.

Nature families is a social platform for families with children who are curious about nature, who wishes to learn more about all the positive benefits of being in nature, both for children and adult, by inviting and inspiring each other through socializing with other families in green areas. Nature families is free, and all are welcome. No prior experience regarding nature and its usage are needed to join.

When you sign up to Nature families you will be asked to inform your municipality. This is so you, and your family can be connected to the right Facebook-group, where you can exchange ideas, inspire each other as well as invite other people and families to your favorite nature-spot in your local area, or you are curious about where to go for your next trip. You can arrange trips through the plan-a-trip tool on our webpage.

Come Outside - childrens’ day care project

The project "Come Outside" aims to ensure that children in Kindergartens and nurseries visit green spaces as often as possible in connection with the pedagogical work at all childrens’ day care settings in Denmark.

The project "Come Outside" (Kom med ud) is part of Children & Nature - Denmark.

We have investigated the benefits of pedagogical work within nature and in natural surroundings and collated good examples from settings all over the country. Through presentations, meetings, and conferences we have also focused on inspiring staff to conduct pedagogical work outside in green spaces. The project has published four reports and produced a short film focusing on the importance of pedagogical work outside.

Help - I am going out

This project develops and shares easy to follow instructions and ideas for teachers, teaching outdoors after the post-covid 19 school re-opening.

By teacher-to-teacher communications, short film introduces and explains subject related activities for pupils in all ages.s
